The Radial Headbone is an advanced amplifier switching device that allows two different guitar amp heads to be used with a single speaker cabinet. With the Headbone, one head could be used for rhythm while a second head could be used for soloing. With 100% discreet Class-A circuitry and choice of either buffered or un-buffered inputs, the Headbone will be of particular interest for players that demand the utmost in tonal performance.
The Headbone's internal switching comprises a sequence of relays, photocells, and load resistors, all of which are controlled via a digitally programmed chip. Hit the footswitch and the Headbone toggles the guitar signal from one amp to the other, disconnects the speaker and diverts the signal to a load resister, reconnects the speaker to the second head and turns on the guitar, all in quick succession. The Headbone features SafeMode™ whereby even when power is disconnected; the Headbone will automatically default to 'head-1 to cabinet' status, ensuring a constant load on the amplifier.
Headbone comes equipped with Slingshot™, an easy-to-use switching system that uses any standard footswitch to toggle the Headbone's status remotely, from wherever the footswitch is located. Slingshot lets you keep the amp-to-speaker cables short and efficient and opens up new switching possibilities too.
Cabbone Setup:
Plug your guitar or FX chain into the Headbone's 'DIRECT' or 'BUFFERED' input*. Connect 'To AMP-1' to one amp head and 'To AMP-2 to the the other using standard 1/4" guitar cables. Connect the speaker outputs from each amp to their respective 'FROM AMP-1' and 'FROM AMP-2' 1/4" jacks using high grade speaker cables*. Now just hook up a speaker cable from the 'To Speaker Cabinet' jack to your speaker, and that's it.
But wait... there's more! Headbone is equipped with Radial's Slingshot™ remote switching. Slingshot lets you keep the cables between amps, cabinet and Headbone all short and neat. All you have to do is plug a standard footswitch into the Headbone's 'Slingshot™ Remote' input* and change amps from wherever you want to put the switch!
Routing Diagram:
Connecting the Headbone is easy. It is just a simple matter of following the signal flow. Make sure you set the impedance on both heads to match your speaker cabinet. Most heads allow you to select between 4-Ohms, 8-Ohms and 16-Ohms. If you are not sure, consult your Tonebone dealer. Now turn on your amps and slowly turn up your volume. It is a good practice to always test your equipment at low levels as most system errors are caused by improper connections. This way, should something not be working, it is highly unlikely that you will cause system damage.
1) Connect Amp-1 speaker output to the Headbone 'HEAD-1' input.
2) Connect Amp-2 speaker output to the Headbone 'HEAD-2' input.
3) Connect the Headbone 'TO SPEAKER CABINET' to your cabinet.
The Slingshot remote on the Headbone is a simple contact closure that employs a latching footswitch. Most standard guitar amplifiers use these switches to change amp channels or turn on the reverb. Most Tonebone dealers have these types of switches in stock. As soon as you connect a switch to the Slingshot input, the on-board switch will be bypassed, allowing remote switching.
